According to TASS, the Russian Embassy in Prague announced on Sunday that Russian citizen Alexander Franchetti had been detained at the Prague International Airport.

“The Czech police have confirmed to us the fact that Russian citizen Alexander Franchetti has been detained at the Prague airport. At present, a representative of the consular department of the Russian embassy is sent to the place of detention to provide the necessary consular assistance. Russian diplomats are in contact with representatives of the Czech authorities and the relatives of the detainee”, said Nikolai Bryakin, spokesman for the diplomatic mission.

The detention of Franchetti in Prague, according to local police sources, was based on an international arrest warrant issued by Ukraine.

Alexander Franchetti is an active participant in the Crimean events of March 2014. Russian citizen. He has been living in Prague since the late 90s, and in 2000 he received permanent residence in the Czech Republic. In Prague, he works as a fitness trainer. According to Czech Radio, Alexander was part of the North Wind group, which helped Russia gain control of Crimea.
