The German Chancellor stressed that it will not be easy to come to an agreement with the Taliban on many issues.
According to TASS, at a press conference in Warsaw with Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that after the terrorist attacks in the United States on September 11, 2001, the West could not achieve all the goals it was striving to achieve.
“We had to realize that we were able to defeat terrorism, which up to this point threatened our security, but we did not achieve all the goals that we would like”, she said.
Merkel acknowledged that it would be difficult to agree with the Taliban movement (banned in the Russian Federation) on a number of issues related, in particular, to the observance of women’s rights.
After the end of the US operation in Afghanistan and the withdrawal of coalition troops from the country, the radical Taliban movement banned in Russia launched an offensive and by September 6 announced the establishment of control over the entire Afghan territory. By September 8, the Taliban had formed an interim government of Afghanistan, which included only representatives of the movement.
