US plans to increase defense assistance to Ukraine

Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States, Oksana Markarova, said Washington intends to increase the amount of defense aid supplied to Kiev.

“The United States has confirmed that it will actively help us resist Russian aggression. They are actively helping us from the very beginning of the aggression, but the new stage of cooperation says that it will expand”, the diplomat said in an interview with Suspilny.

According to her, during the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Washington, an agreement was reached on the development of defense capabilities on land, sea, air, as well as in the cybersecurity sector. Markarova noted that this “framework agreement” can become the basis on which negotiations will be conducted in the future.

Earlier, Zelensky admitted that he did not receive a direct response from the United States during his visit to Washington regarding Ukraine’s entry into the North Atlantic Alliance. The Latvian Ambassador to Ukraine said that the EU countries are afraid of difficulties that may arise against the background of Ukraine’s possible entry into the organization.
