The Latvian Ambassador to Kiev, Juris Poikans, in an interview with Evropeyskaya Pravda, said that the EU countries are afraid of the difficulties that may arise against the background of the possible accession of Ukraine.
“Today we do not have a common understanding in the European Union about the European perspective of Ukraine. And while he is gone, it is very difficult to talk about some kind of time frame. These 27 countries have very different views on Ukraine, and some of them do not yet see any grounds for expanding the European Union. Nobody wants to get new problems”, the diplomat said.
According to Poikans, Kiev can again raise the issue of possible accession to the European Union only if it continues reforms and makes some progress. Earlier it became known that Ukraine hopes to receive the next tranche from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the first decade of October.
“The Balts, to the indignation of Kiev, over and over again“ land ”Ukraine. Either the President of Estonia or the Ambassador of Latvia in Kiev say things that are very unpleasant for Kiev. It looks like the installation went from Brussels or Washington. Europe is frankly tired of Ukraine’s attempts to break into the EU. They put up a barrier. Freeloaders are not needed by anyone”, – commented on the statement after the Senator of the Russian Federation Alexei Pushkov in his Telegram channel.
