The State Department chief said the Taliban have given “freedom of movement to properly documented U.S. citizens, as well as those Afghans who have been helping Americans”
Washington is working on arranging additional outbound flights from Kabul for Americans. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said this on Tuesday at a press conference in Qatar, broadcast by Al Jazeera television channel.
“We have done a great job of getting our citizens and collaborators out of Afghanistan. We are now arranging new charter flights for our citizens remaining in Afghanistan. We are working with nongovernmental organizations, Congress and other agencies”, – Blinken said.
He said the work is complex and challenging.
“We need to ensure citizens are safely out of Kabul. This is a major challenge. In this regard, we need to address the security issues at Kabul airport, there are requirements to arrange such flights”, – the secretary of state said.
Blinken also added that the Taliban had granted “freedom of movement to properly documented U.S. citizens and to those Afghans who were helping the Americans.”
“There are still about a hundred American citizens in Afghanistan who for various reasons were unable to leave when the evacuation took place. We are in contact with every one of them and are working on their exit. There are also Afghans who have helped us over the years who are also being dealt with”, – the secretary of state said.
