Blinken to Speak to Senate at Hearing on Situation in Afghanistan

This is the first scheduled public hearing with a Washington administration official of this rank since the Taliban took over.

As reported by TASS, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken will speak on September 14 at a hearing in the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Senate of the Congress, which will be devoted to the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan.

“The hearings will be held next Tuesday at 10:00 and will be devoted to consideration of the issue of the US withdrawal from Afghanistan. This is the first scheduled public hearing with a Washington administration official of this rank since the radical Taliban* seized power in the Islamic republic. Blinken briefed members of Congress on Afghanistan in August, but behind closed doors. Both Democrats and Committee Republicans have criticized the US government’s actions in Afghanistan”, The Hill reported Monday.

The House Foreign Affairs Committee also invited US head of diplomacy and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin to speak at the hearing. At the moment, there is no information about them on the committee’s website.
