Moscow may take part in the inauguration of the new Afghan government if it is inclusive, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
“We want to support the process of forming a government that will reflect the entire spectrum of Afghan society, including the Taliban (members of a terrorist group banned in the Russian Federation), including other ethnic groups – not only Pashtuns: they are Hazaras, Uzbeks, Tajiks. Only such an inclusive government can ensure sustainable a transition to a new life”, Lavrov told reporters.
“If this (inclusiveness – ed.) Is discussed, I think we will gladly take part in such a ceremony together with other invited countries that affect the situation in this country,” the minister added, not ruling out that the invitation to the Russian side already received.
A month ago, the Taliban stepped up their offensive against government forces and entered Kabul on August 15. The next day, they announced that the war was over, and the form of government in the state would become clear in the near future. On the night of August 31, the US military left the Kabul airport, ending the nearly 20-year American military presence in Afghanistan.
