Merkel believes talks with Taliban* will allow resumption of evacuation of Afghans

Angela Merkel, German Chancellor, believes that it is necessary to negotiate with the Taliban*, which has taken control of Afghanistan.

On Sunday, she urged to start a political dialogue with representatives of the radical movement, reports the publication “Evropeyskaya Pravda”, citing DW.

“Regarding the Taliban, then, of course, we must talk to them, because now they are the ones to whom we need to turn,” Merkel said.

She said that one of the main reasons for the need for negotiations was the evacuation of those who remained in Afghanistan. Many of the country’s citizens worked for German or other foreign organizations. Their lives are now in danger.

In addition, according to Merkel, negotiations will help keep the flow of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan. She believes that the opening of the Kabul International Airport for flights is a good sign to start a dialogue.
