EU ambassadors on September 8 agree on the extension of sanctions on Ukraine

The Committee of Permanent Representatives of the EU (COREPER) on September 8 plans to once again agree on the extension of sanctions against Ukrainian and Russian individuals and organizations “for undermining the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.” This was reported by RIA Novosti.

“Decision of the Council concerning restrictive measures in relation to actions that undermine or threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Decision to launch a written procedure for approval”, says the agenda of the upcoming COREPER meeting.

The sanctions are expected to be extended until March 15, 2022. Recall that the first sanctions restrictions were introduced in March 2014. They include a freeze on assets in the European Union and travel restrictions. The “black list” includes 179 individuals and 52 organizations.

Relations between Russia and the West have deteriorated significantly against the background of the internal Ukrainian conflict and the situation around Crimea. Western countries have repeatedly accused Moscow of interfering in the internal politics of Ukraine and the “illegal annexation” of Crimea.
