Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, during his conversation with journalists on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), expressed regret that Washington and Kiev are “friends against Russia,” Interfax reports.
“We also drew attention to the fact that the Russian topic was high on the agenda of the US-Ukrainian talks. Unfortunately, mostly with a minus sign. And rather, to put it simply, it is about the Ukrainian-American friendship against Russia. That is, they are not friends for themselves, but against Russia. This, too, can only cause regret”, said Peskov.
The press secretary of the Russian president noted that Moscow drew attention to the Euro-Atlantic aspirations voiced by Ukraine, which Washington is ready to support.
“We drew attention to the topic of Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations, which were voiced – that is, Ukraine’s desire to join NATO. And the potential willingness to welcome this desire on the part of the Americans”, Peskov emphasized.
He recalled that Russian President Vladimir has repeatedly stated Moscow’s clear, understandable and consistent position regarding the continuation of NATO’s military infrastructure closer to the Russian borders.
“We believe that this could potentially be the reason for the unpredictable actions of the Ukrainian side in terms of attempts to forcefully resolve the internal Ukrainian conflict in the southeast of the country. It is very dangerous”, concluded Peskov.
