The RIA Novosti news agency published quotes from foreign media outlets on its Telegram channel, commenting on the talks between the presidents of Ukraine and the United States, Volodymyr Zelensky and Joe Biden.
“The meeting took place at a time when the American president is trying to assure the world that the United States remains a reliable and powerful ally. It is unlikely that Biden will completely make concessions at the numerous requests of Zelensky – he previously made it clear that he considers the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline as a fact”, writes the American daily The Washington Post.
Another authoritative American newspaper, the Los Angeles Times, noted that Zelensky “became the second European head of state to sit with President Biden in the Oval Office.” In addition, the analysts of the publication stressed that the meeting of the heads of Ukraine and the United States took place at a time when “inevitable changes in US domestic policy and a decrease in their influence in the world” look.
“Despite a delay of several days due to the crisis in Afghanistan, Zelenskiy was admitted to the Oval Office, where he has sought to go since his election in 2019. His attempts to achieve such a meeting with Trump“ led to the fact that Zelenskiy was unwittingly drawn into the international incident leading to the first impeachment case against Trump”, said The New York Times.
On Wednesday, September 1, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met in Washington with the head of the White House, Joe Biden. The Ukrainian leader noted that the meeting went well, but “not always in a sunny atmosphere.” Following the meeting, the United States and Ukraine issued a joint statement stating that the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is allegedly a “threat” to Europe’s energy security.
