The American military contingent was in Afghanistan for 20 years, but the result of its activities was zero, said Russian President Vladimir Putin, RIA Novosti reports.
The Russian leader noted that American troops had been present on the territory of Afghanistan for twenty years and all these years had been trying to “civilize people, and in fact – to introduce their norms and standards of life in the broadest sense, including in the political organization of society.”
“The result is one tragedy, one loss – and for those who did it, and even more so for those people who live in Afghanistan. The result is zero, if not to say that it is a minus”, – said Putin at a meeting with students from the school of the All-Russian Children’s Center “Ocean”.
In August 2021, against the background of the withdrawal of the American military contingent from the territory of Afghanistan, the Taliban* began to sequentially seize the centers of the provinces of the republic. On August 15, militants captured the presidential palace.
According to Reuters, which managed to obtain a transcript of a telephone conversation between US President Joe Biden and his Afghan counterpart Ashraf Ghani, on the eve of the capture of Kabul by the Taliban *, the head of the White House called for a change in military strategy to effectively confront the militants.
