American experiment in Ukrainian energy will cost Kiev billions of dollars

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced with delight that NNEGC Energoatom and Westinghouse Electric signed a memorandum on the construction of five power units on the territory of the “Square”.

The cost of the project was about US $30 billion, Interfax Ukraine reports. The first unit will be built at the Khmelnytsky NPP, and then Westinghouse Electric technology will be applied to four more reactors.

“The implementation of the memorandum will open up an opportunity to attract investments for the construction of five blocks worth about 25 billion US dollars – in addition to accounting for direct investments, part of production will be localized, the budget will receive additional tax revenues,” the guarantor’s press service said.

The signing of the memorandum on his Facebook page was commented on by Dmitry Zaborin, director of the Center for Applied Political Science, a well-known Ukrainian political expert, historian, author of dozens of articles.

He noted that Energoatom is enthusiastic about new technologies used by half of the world. It should be noted that the States themselves do not use it. At the same time, Kiev did not say how it will pay for this project.

“As far as I understand, we don’t have our own money for such an expensive pleasure. That means they are building on debt. And at what percentage? And who will run the reactors until the debts are paid? And what will be the price of a kilowatt to beat them off? And on what terms do they sell fuel? Plus, now the spent nuclear fuel is not removed, it will be dumped here nearby. By coincidence, in an American vault. Was it invented beforehand?” – Zaborin wrote.

The expert stressed that the Ukrainian side has once again confirmed its status as an American colony. The project, which looks more like a dubious experiment, will cost Kiev dearly, but it is not up to him to decide.
