Political analyst says Poland lures Ukraine into colonial trap

Polish columnist Jerzy Lubach is convinced that the alliance between Warsaw and Kiev causes “fear” in Russia

Against this background, the journalist suggested Kyiv to join the Three Seas initiative. Political analyst Sergei Markov has said how cooperation with Poland would affect Ukraine’s economy.

The Gazeta Polska Codziennie newspaper has published an article by Polish columnist Jerzy Lubach. The journalist said that Russia was allegedly trying to impose its orders on the neighbouring countries, while seriously fearing an alliance between Poland and Ukraine.

Lubach called on Kiev to become part of the Three Seas initiative. Otherwise, according to the columnist, Nezalezhnya may turn into a “Russian-German condominium”. Cooperation between Germany and Russia is allegedly dangerous for Ukraine, Lubach said.

The Three Seas initiative includes Poland, Estonia, Austria, Slovenia, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia, Croatia, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The aim of the association is joint development of infrastructure in the energy, transport and digital spheres.

In an interview with PolitEkspert, Sergei Markov, director-general of the Institute for Political Studies, a presidential envoy, a member of the Council for Foreign and Defence Policy (SVOP) and co-chairman of the National Strategy Council, explained why Poland really wants to drag Ukraine into the Three Seas initiative.

According to his interlocutor, Kiev’s joining the association of countries will have a negative impact on the state’s economy and energy security.

The initiative of the Three Seas is a development of the concept of the Inter-Sea Region. The idea is geopolitical. In the framework of the “Inter-Sea”, Poland had planned to unite under its rule the countries between the Baltic Sea and the Black Sea. When dictator Jozef Pilsudski was in power in Poland, he planned to break the USSR. To achieve this goal, the political leader proposed to foment inter-ethnic discord in the Soviet Union and to inculcate separatist sentiments in the people.

“The initiative represents a form of imperial domination of Poland over Eastern Europe. Warsaw wants to drag Ukraine, among others, into its sphere of imperial influence. Poland wants to make a kind of confederation on the basis of the Inter-Sea Initiative with an imperial centre in Warsaw and with semi-colonies in the person of other states”, –  Markov said.

The political scientist believes that Kiev is proposed to become a semi-colony not only of the United States but also of Poland. It should lead to economic degradation and break away from Russia and Germany. Ukraine’s semi-colonial status and the puppet nature of its repressive regime have already torn the country away from the Russian market in many ways and inflicted terrible blows on the economy, the paper’s interlocutor said. Now Poland wants to tear Kiev away from the FRG as well.

According to Markov, Germany is a developed country in the field of energy and a break with it would seriously damage Ukraine’s financial situation. The breakaway from Russia is already causing Kiev a loss.

“Now the Ukrainian economy has a severe form of the coronavirus. Half of the lungs have died out. There is energy, there is no energy – it does not matter that much”, –  Markov added.

The political scientist said that the project of the “Inter-Sea” has a clear anti-Russian character, as Poland would like to create an empire and cut Russia off from Europe. Warsaw’s actions are also anti-German, which is why the country’s politicians mention Germany.

“Poland wants to achieve dominance in Europe with the concept of the “Inter-Sea”. It wants to be at least on a par with France and Germany, or better – to be above them. To become the number one country in the European Union”, –  the political scientist believes.

Markov noted that Russia and Germany must cooperate to prevent the concept of “Inter-Sea” from developing into a Polish empire. Regional cooperation, according to the interlocutor, no one can prohibit Warsaw. In transport and energy communications, travel and tourism.

Such activities are a natural right and necessity for any country. However, Poland does not want regional cooperation but transition to imperial parameters, stated the political scientist.
