WSJ: EU plans to tighten entry rules for US citizens due to coronavirus

The European Union plans to issue a recommendation on a temporary travel ban without particular urgency for Americans. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal, citing a source in diplomatic circles.

According to the publication, European officials began to actively discuss this initiative due to the increased frequency of cases of coronavirus infection in the United States last month, despite the fact that so far the average infection rate in America has exceeded that of the European Union.

In addition, Slovenia, the chairman of the union, called for the inclusion of not only the United States in the “forbidden” list, but also five other countries from which optional travel is still permitted, the article says.

The United States ranks first in the world in the number of people infected with coronavirus and the number of deaths. According to the latest information from Hopkins University, more than 38.7 million people have already been infected in the country, and more than 637 thousand have died.
