London recognized the need for joint work with Russia and China on Afghanistan

Moscow and Beijing may have the opportunity to influence the new government of the republic.

According to TASS, citing a British diplomatic source, Great Britain believes that Russia and China may have the opportunity to influence the new authorities in Kabul, and recognizes the need for joint work with Moscow and Beijing in the Afghan direction.

“We recognize the need to work together with Russia and China, given their possible ability to influence the new Afghan government and our joint interests in curbing terrorism and drug trafficking, preventing a refugee crisis and further economic collapse”, the source said.

In this regard, he mentioned the efforts that Great Britain is making at the UN with the aim of forming a unified position of the UN Security Council (Russia, Great Britain, China, the United States and France) on Afghanistan.

In parallel, the UK is working with France and the United States to persuade UN Security Council colleagues to adopt a resolution that will send a signal to the Taliban, banned in Russia, that it must adhere to its obligations to ensure safe exit from the country for foreigners and Afghans, and prevent the transformation of the country to the base for terrorism. According to London, it will also be important in the resolution to point out the importance of humanitarian access to Afghanistan so that UN staff can safely carry out their humanitarian work in the country.

As the diplomatic source noted, negotiations on this resolution were held in the UN Security Council throughout the weekend, and the goal of its authors is to have it adopted at the beginning of this week.
