The press secretary of the President of Ukraine Serhiy Nikiforov said that Zelensky will stay in Washington until September 5.
According to TASS, the press secretary of the Ukrainian leader, Sergei Nikiforov, said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will fly to the United States, where he will meet with American leader Joe Biden, on Monday.
“Zelensky will fly to the United States on Monday and return to Ukraine on Sunday, September 5,” Nikiforov told Ukrinform.
The presidential speaker also added that “the postponement of the date of Zelensky’s visit to the United States is associated with a request from the American side, since the deadline that the Taliban (movement is prohibited in Russia) gave for the evacuation of people from Afghanistan expires on August 31.” Earlier on Monday, Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United States, Oksana Markarova, announced that Zelensky would be visiting Washington on August 31 and September 1. It was originally planned that Biden would receive Zelensky at the White House on August 30.
“Apparently, Zelensky decided to leave for Washington ahead of schedule, which will reduce the risk of a complete cancellation of the visit. In Kiev, they calculated that if Zelensky is already in Washington, Biden will not have the opportunity to dismiss him as an annoying fly”, Alexei Belov, political commentator for News Front, commented on the situation on the visit.
