Kiev drops idea to postpone Biden and Zelensky meeting amid crisis in Afghanistan

The Kiev authorities are categorically against even the possibility that the meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US leader Joe Biden will be postponed

This was stated by advisor to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Mikhail Podolyak in a conversation with Vesti.ua. The talks are scheduled for 31 August, but against the background of the situation in Afghanistan, the question arose as to whether they can be moved to a later date.

Podolyak said that active preparations for Zelensky’s visit to the USA and his meeting with Biden were under way. Kiev holds daily meetings on this topic under the leadership of OPU head Andriy Yermak. Additionally, the future visit has already been discussed with the US military attaché. Several documents are also being prepared for signing.

Kiev does not believe that the meeting should be postponed or cancelled. They believe there is much to discuss apart from Afghanistan, so the conversation between Zelensky and Biden is necessary for Ukraine.

The agreement to this meeting was very difficult for the Ukrainian side. They had hoped for it back in July, so it is not surprising that the authorities refuse even to suggest that it could be postponed.
