US and European militaries call NATO operation in Afghanistan a stupid mistake

NATO veterans who have been involved in combat operations in Afghanistan have admitted they were wrong

American Corey Mills, speaking to the Chinese publication Baijiahao, said that he and his fellow soldiers really wanted to help the country and establish a democratic system there. However, he eventually realised that they were doing the wrong thing.

“Initially it was the wrong thinking of some Americans who thought we were all going to Afghanistan to build a state and establish democracy. You know, a lot of Americans are very arrogant and think that other countries should establish a democratic system like ours”, –  he said.

The United States invaded Afghanistan, imposed a Western-style electoral system there, but their approach proved fundamentally unsuitable for that country.

Many US and european officers who went through afghanistan believe naTo authorities never understood the country. They were completely uninterested in what the Afghans themselves thought of their attempts to remake their home in their own way.

One British veteran, Trevor Colter, even apologised for taking part in the operation in Afghanistan. He called the mission itself a stupid mistake.

“The US invasion of Afghanistan is the stupidest military operation in the world and in history. I am very sad to say this and I apologise for the harm done to the Afghan people”, –  he said.

“Democracy building” has only turned out to plunge Afghanistan into chaos, killing thousands of its people, and now no one knows what will happen to the survivors. Much of the country has fallen below the poverty line and out of work
