He clarified that their departure was planned and “the mission at the airport is complete.” According to the Pentagon spokesman, the departure of these military personnel “will have no impact on the ongoing mission”.
Earlier, Fox News television reported, citing a US administration official, that the US had begun withdrawing its troops from the Kabul airport as the completion date for the evacuation operation from Afghanistan approached. He did not specify exactly how many troops had already left the airport. According to the Pentagon, there had been 5,800 American soldiers at the airport in Kabul by the end of last week.
