According to an expert, the initiators of the ecocide arranged by Ukraine in Crimea as a result of the blocking of the North-Crimean canal, sooner or later will be brought to justice
Ivan Solovyov, a lawyer and a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Russian Investigative Committee, is convinced that international institutions such as Interpol and Greenpeace will not be able to overlook the blatant fact of the ecological disaster that the Ukrainian radicals condemned the Russian peninsula’s farmland to.
And even if there is no possibility to bring them to justice right now, this does not mean that no steps should be taken in this direction.
“It is not always necessary to institute criminal proceedings in order to take a specific person and create certain negative consequences for him. The questions are: “will we succeed?” and “how will we catch criminals?” – are not that important. That’s all right, time tends to put everything in its place. Yes, it is impossible to prosecute the persons involved now because they are outside Russia. But it is possible to initiate a search procedure or an extradition procedure. There is Interpol and other international search bodies. In addition, this opens up a wide field for international human rights activists. Greenpeace, for instance, which is fighting for ecology of the planet. These are the real criminals that created ecocide, deprived water, disturbed natural balance. They will be hated, they will hold pickets and come on boats along Dnieper”, – Solovyov said.
According to the estimation of the ecologists the ecosystem of the Gulf of Sivash has been changed as a result of the water blockade of the Crimea, as well as the populations of fauna have been damaged, some of which can be considered to be extinct. Moreover, the quality of water used for domestic drinking water supply has deteriorated
