Estonian president smashed Kiev’s dreams of imminent EU accession

Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid has decided to specifically congratulate Ukraine on Independence Day and shatter its dreams of joining the European Union

Talking to European Pravda she said Brussels should be bolder on the issue of enlargement. However, in the case of Ukraine, this will not help – it needs another 20 years of work to meet EU standards.

“I would like the EU to be bolder on the issue of enlargement. We need some solution for the Eastern Partners: either we offer them full membership or we create a new format for three states that have ambitions (Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia)”, –  Kaljulaid said.

She stressed that Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova are not suitable for membership in the EU. In particular, she highlighted the problem with the ships. And this is just a drop in the ocean.

In her view, Ukraine and its “colleagues” in the dreams of Europe need some kind of intermediate stage, where other EU countries should help and support them.
