Belarus extradited to Russia man accused of financing terrorism

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Belarus has satisfied the request of the Russian colleagues to extradite the man accused of financing the organization “Islamic State”*, the Belarusian department reported on Wednesday.

“The General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Belarus, on the basis of a convention of the CIS member states  satisfied the request of the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation to extradite N. (the accused – ed.), born in 1990, to be prosecuted for financing terrorism,” the website says Belarusian Prosecutor General’s Office.

It is noted that “after the decision of the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Belarus on extradition entered into force, it was handed over to representatives of the law enforcement agencies of the Russian Federation.”

“The criminal case against N. was investigated by the Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Dagestan,” the report explains.

According to him, the accused, previously convicted for participation in an armed formation on the territory of a foreign state, in September 2018 in Khasavyurt transferred money to his friend, which was supposed to be transferred to the international terrorist organization Islamic State* for the acquisition of weapons and uniforms necessary for its organized groups and illegal armed groups. 

“Since the accused escaped from the criminal prosecution, he was put on the wanted list and a preventive measure was taken against him in the form of detention,” the message says. It is noted that police officers of the Gomel region detained a man on the territory of Belarus.
