The United States is considering the option of expanding military aid to Ukraine. This was stated by the former special representative of the US State Department for Ukraine Kurt Volcker.
In an interview with the publication “Crimea. Realii”, he said that Washington should supply Kiev with more weapons, reports the Glavred edition.
“We need to supply more: for coastal and air defense, for improving electronic communications, countering electronic surveillance and electronic warfare. This is all the US can do to help the Ukrainians. We must increase our security assistance”, Volcker said.
He also raised the most exciting topic: the deployment of an American base with anti-missile systems on the territory of Ukraine. The diplomat believes that this is an unlikely development of events. In his opinion, the White House will not decide on new military facilities abroad in the near future.
“We are in the process of withdrawing troops from Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq and other countries. I don’t think there is a desire to spend more money on US military bases in other parts of the world. At the same time, there is no reason why we could not have done this if the Ukrainian government had invited the United States and the United States had been ready. We could easily place some kind of training base in Ukraine if we wanted to, too”, he said.
