A secret meeting between the head of the CIA and one of the Taliban leader took place in Kabul*

William Burns, the head of the US Central Intelligence Agency, held secret talks with the head of the Taliban’s political office*, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar.

The Washington Post newspaper, citing anonymous American officials, reported that the meeting was held in Kabul, RIA Novosti reported. The talks took place on Monday 23 August.

It should be noted that this is the first dialogue at such a high level between a US representative and the Taliban. The American publication believes that they discussed the timing of the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan. The Taliban* gave the United States until August 31st.

When journalists asked the CIA for comment, the agency refused to communicate with the newspaper staff. Thus, the scouts did not confirm, but did not deny this information either.
