The representative of the Taliban* movement (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation) Suheil Shahin announced August 31 as a “red line” for the final withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan.
“This is a red line. [US President Joe] Biden announced that they would withdraw all military forces on August 31st. Therefore, if they extend (presence – Ed.), it will mean that they are expanding the occupation, although this is not necessary”, AdnKronos quoted him as saying.
Shahin ruled out the possibility of giving additional time to Washington or London to continue the operation to evacuate their military, threatening that if the deadlines are not met, “there will be consequences”.“It will create mistrust between us. If they intend to continue the occupation, it will cause a reaction”, the Taliban spokesman added.
Earlier in the day, the media reported that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson intends to personally ask Biden to extend the period of evacuation from Afghanistan. It is specified that the request will be made at the virtual meeting of the leaders of the Big Seven (G7) on August 24.
In addition, on the eve it became known that the Royal Air Force of Great Britain (RAF) has already extended the period of its evacuation until August 27-28. Measures were taken to enable more people, including Afghan politicians and humanitarian workers, to leave the country.
