The website of the Ukrainian online media outlet Strana.ua has been shut down. It was blocked before the Kiev authorities documented their decision
The termination was reported by journalists on their official page in the social network Facebook, RIA Novosti reported.
“The website was blocked last night by outrage – there was no presidential decree yet, and the providers had already received the command to block it. According to our sources in the president’s office, it was Zelensky’s personal order to close access to Strana as quickly as possible”, – the statement said.
Media workers said that providers blocked the domain ua, but they managed to switch to strana.news. However, at any moment, it too may stop its operation.
The decision to block the resource was taken on Friday, 20 August, by the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine (NSDC). The sanctions were imposed on Igor Guzhva, the editor-in-chief of Strana, and, as a consequence, on his publication. Nevertheless, it was to continue operating until the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenski approved such a decision by decree.
