No information yet on whether it was the US military, or representatives of another NATO country, or Afghans remaining at the airport
The military deployed at Kabul airport used tear gas and fired several shots into the air to disperse a crowd. The Wall Street Journal reported this on Friday, citing a US government source.
The newspaper noted that there was no information on whether it had been US military personnel or representatives of some other NATO country, or the remaining Afghan military personnel at the airport. The Pentagon has not commented on the incident. There is also no information about the casualties.
As the publication specifies, the incident occurred as soldiers moved outside the airport grounds to push back the crowd and make way for those arriving.
According to media reports, several thousand people have amassed outside the Kabul airport trying to get out of the country. However, the military guarding the airport only allows those on departure lists to enter the area.
