Biden expects to complete the evacuation of Americans from Afghanistan by August 31

If the Taliban disrupts the American evacuation operation at Kabul airport, they will face a swift and forceful response, stressed Jake Sullivan, assistant to the US president for national security.

According to TASS, US Assistant to the President for National Security Jake Sullivan said on CBS television on Thursday that US President Joe Biden hoped that the US military could complete the evacuation of United States citizens from Afghanistan by August 31, as planned.

“The President is committed to ensuring that every American who wants to leave Afghanistan is out of Afghanistan. He believes we can achieve that by August 31”, –  he said, when asked whether the US leader was leaning towards “extending the deadline in Afghanistan”.

However, Sullivan could not specify exactly how many Americans are currently in Afghanistan. The CBS host also asked Sullivan if the US military is in danger if it remains in Afghanistan beyond August 31.

“It’s a risky, dynamic and dangerous situation today. We look at those risks soberly and consider them, but we have made it clear to [the] Taliban  that if they prevent any American from coming through, if they disrupt our evacuation operation at [Kabul] airport, they will face a quick and violent response”, –  Sullivan said to that, evading a direct answer to the question posed.
