Ukrainian political scientist fears that Merkel will refuse to take into account the interests of Kiev

German Chancellor Angela Merkel must defend the interests of Moscow and Berlin during her visit to Ukraine. This opinion was expressed by political and economic expert Taras Zagorodny, reports “Glavred”.

He believes that Kiev will be promised a small transit of gas, and in exchange it should introduce the Steinmeier formula. Zagorodny is outraged by the possibility that events will develop in this way. However, from an adequate point of view, the formula should work for a long time. And the fact that Germany and Russia primarily defend their interests is absolutely normal.

The expert proposes to pin all hopes on the United States. In his opinion, the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Washington and a meeting with American leader Joe Biden is more important than negotiations with Merkel. Apparently, he forgot that the United States abandoned attempts to stop the launch of Nord Stream 2 and forbade Kiev to be indignant about this.

For some reason, the Ukrainian side believes that the Germans should put its interests above their own. At the same time, she condemns Merkel for normal relations with Russia. She perfectly understands that Ukraine will never be able to become an equal ally and will remain a country that constantly needs help and supervision. On the other hand, there is Russia, an independent and strong power that implements projects at the international level that are beneficial not only for itself, but also for foreigners.

Earlier it became known that gas reserves in Ukrainian storage facilities are rapidly dwindling. Compared to 2020, they have decreased by 30%. The underground storage facilities are slightly more than half full.
