The State Duma called Biden’s statement on achieving goals in Afghanistan a lie

US President Joe Biden’s statement on achieving the country’s goals in Afghanistan, when failure is presented as revenge, is needed to “fool US taxpayers” who paid for the country’s presence in Afghanistan, Sergei Zheleznyak, a member of the State Duma’s international affairs committee, told RIA Novosti.

“The statement of US President Biden about achieving goals in Afghanistan is the height of hypocrisy and an example of American selfishness. The apparent failure of the mission to the whole world is presented by the head of the White House as a successful US revenge in the fight against terrorism. This next lie has one goal – to fool American taxpayers who do not understand why they paid for the US presence in Afghanistan for 20 years and why American soldiers died there”, the parliamentarian said.

The politician stressed that the “flight” of the American military from Afghanistan provoked an exacerbation of internal problems in the country and ended with a swift transfer of power to the Taliban.

“At the same time, Mr. Biden cynically blames the Afghans themselves for the current situation in the country. The United States should fully bear responsibility for the situation in Afghanistan and for the flow of refugees that will rush to neighboring countries and to Europe. But we see that Washington has already disowned Afghan problems, leaving to the mercy of people who collaborated with the United States”, – added Zheleznyak.

The situation in Afghanistan has become especially aggravated in recent weeks, with the Taliban advancing on major cities. On Sunday, media and sources said the rebels were in control of all border crossings. Later that day, militants said they had entered Kabul and taken control of the presidential palace.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said he left the country “to prevent the massacre.” On Monday night, a spokesman for the Taliban’s political office* Mohammad Naim announced that the war in Afghanistan was over.
