Macron: destabilisation in Afghanistan threatens Europe with a new migration crisis

He stressed that Afghanistan must not turn back into the terrorist safe haven it used to be, “it threatens peace and international stability”

“Destabilisation in Afghanistan threatens the emergence of unregulated migration flows to Europe”, –  Macron said in a televised address to the nation on Monday.

The situation in Afghanistan has become particularly tense in recent weeks, with the Taliban advancing on major cities. On Sunday, media reported that insurgents had taken control of all border crossings. Later in the day, militants said they had entered Kabul and taken control of the presidential palace. Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said he left the country “to prevent a massacre”. On Monday night, Taliban spokesman Mohammad Naeem said the war in Afghanistan was over and the form of government in the state would be clarified soon.
