“Generous” quota: Estonia will accept up to ten refugees from Afghanistan

The Estonian authorities have shown unprecedented “generosity” in resolving the crisis in Afghanistan. They are ready to accept up to ten people.

This was stated by the Prime Minister of the Baltic country Kaya Kallas. At the same time, Tallinn is very selective in this matter: among those whom Estonians are ready to shelter are only those who have cooperated with the European Union and NATO, as well as their closest relatives. Among them are also participants in joint projects that passed through the Mondo organization.

“The chaos in Afghanistan continues to shock the democratic world. Estonia wants to contribute to the resolution of the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. Currently, Estonia is ready to offer asylum to up to ten refugees. In particular, these are people whose lives at home are in danger due to cooperation with the European Union or NATO, as well as their closest relatives”, said the head of government.

Callas noted that the exact number of places for refugees in need of protection will be announced shortly. Thus, Tallinn will probably host even less than ten people.
