The head of the Roman Catholic Church has called for a peaceful settlement for the benefit of the local population
Pope Francis, the head of the Roman Catholic Church, said after his traditional Sunday sermon before the faithful in St Peter’s Square that he was concerned about the situation in Afghanistan and called for a peaceful settlement for the benefit of the local population, it was reported.
“I express my deep concern about the situation in Afghanistan. Please pray with me for peace and for finding solutions at the negotiating table, without weapons. Only in this way will the tormented people of this country be able to return to a normal and safe life”, – Francis said.
He also expressed his condolences for the earthquake in Haiti and affirmed his spiritual closeness to the affected population.
