US President Joe Biden has threatened the Taliban, saying the radicals will retaliate if they endanger American lives
“Based on military, diplomatic and intelligence recommendations, I have authorised the deployment of some 5,000 US troops to ensure the safe drawdown of US personnel and our allies, and the safe evacuation of Afghans who helped us during the mission and those at risk from Taliban advance”, – Biden said in a statement.
He said he instructed Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to support Afghan authorities in their pursuit of a political settlement in the country and also ordered the army and intelligence to ensure the US is able to counter terrorist threats from Afghanistan.
