As of August 14, the Taliban* militants control 21 of the 34 administrative centers of Afghanistan’s provinces, TASS reports.
As previously reported, the Taliban launched an assault on the new provinces of Afghanistan. According to Taliban spokesman* Zabihullah Mujahid, the defensive lines of the city of Sharan, the capital of Paktika province in southeastern Afghanistan, have been destroyed.
In addition, control was established over the last county in the northern province of Badakhshan – Kuran-va-Munjan on the border with Pakistan. Mujahid stressed that the soldiers of the government army are going over to the side of the Taliban.
Pentagon spokesman John Kirby announced that Washington has begun moving troops to the Afghan capital to evacuate American diplomats. According to him, the task of the military is to evacuate up to a thousand civilians a day from Afghanistan, but in the event of an attack, “they can protect themselves and the evacuees.”
