Former British Chief of Staff called on London to provide humanitarian aid to Afghanistan

Former Chief of the General Staff of the United Kingdom Armed Forces Richard Dannat in an interview with the BBC said that London should provide humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan amid the seizure of the region by Taliban militants*.

“Let’s show the Afghan government that we are not abandoning him and that we are still on the same side with him. It is normal that we take our citizens out of there. But what about a humanitarian operation in Kabul to set up camps for residents who fled from occupied areas of the country and deliver humanitarian aid? I think that our government should think about such steps, although it is now more focused on a military response”, he said.

According to Dunnat, one day “the moment may come when British troops will have to finally leave Afghanistan, but until that moment, Britain can help resolve the humanitarian crisis, even taking into account the refusal of military assistance.”

According to Sky News Arabia, the Taliban* captured 21 of the 34 provincial administrative centers in Afghanistan. Politico notes that against the background of an active offensive by militants, the United States hastily evacuated employees of the American embassy in Kabul.
