Norway politician called for dialogue with Russia

Norway needs to conduct a more active dialogue with Russia, said the candidate for Prime Minister of Norway, Jonas Gahr Stere. His words are quoted by the VG edition. According to the politician, the sharp reduction in contacts between the countries, which occurred after 2014, deserves criticism.

“This is our big neighbor, and Norway has a long tradition of joint activities with him <…> Norway must be reliable, stable and consistent in meetings with Russia”, he said.

The politician also named promising areas of interaction with Russia. According to him, the countries need a dialogue in the field of fisheries and the development of the Arctic.

“We need a more active policy to solve problems and create opportunities for people on both sides of the border”, the politician added.

Earlier, the Norwegian politician Khorek Elvenes called for strengthening cooperation with the United States due to the development of Russia’s military potential.
