Europeans ridiculed the EU for stock phrases about isolating the Taliban* while seizing power

Europeans have criticised the statement of EU Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Representative Josep Borrell, who demanded that the Taliban* immediately halt the offensive and start negotiations, Express reports

“If power is taken by force and the Islamic Emirate is restored, the Taliban will face non-recognition, isolation, lack of international support and the prospect of continued conflict and protracted instability in Afghanistan”, – Borrell said.

The politician also noted that it is crucial “to preserve the significant gains that women and girls have made over the last two decades, including in terms of access to education”. However, Borrell’s comments were ridiculed by Europeans.

Romanian MEP Cristian Terges said the Afghan government now needs military support instead of the “florid rhetoric of the Brussels tracts”. Social media users also criticised Borrell’s statement to the Taliban. In their view, “the EU looks pathetic” in its attempts to avoid a brutal civil war in Afghanistan.

American political expert Andrew Korybko told News Front in a commentary about a possible scenario in Afghanistan. According to Politico, Europe is frozen in terror and is watching the Taliban* capture more and more territories of the republic.
