Russian embassy urges State Department to pay attention to human rights situation in US

A State Department official continues to criticize Russia for alleged human rights violations, the diplomatic mission stressed

According to TASS, the Russian embassy in Washington has suggested that the State Department should pay attention to the human rights situation in the US itself instead of criticizing Moscow and read the relevant report of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

“U.S. State Department spokesman Ned Price continues to criticize Russia for alleged human rights violations. Meanwhile, it is high time the US turned its attention to the situation inside its own country”, –  the Russian diplomats said in a statement posted on the diplomatic mission’s Twitter account on Wednesday, to which a link to the Russian Foreign Ministry website marked “here are some reference points” is attached, where the report “On the human rights situation in selected countries”, which mentions the US among others, is posted.

Price told a regular press briefing on Wednesday that US authorities were closely monitoring developments regarding the filing of new charges against Alexei Navalny. According to the US foreign policy spokesman, “In many ways, this is a continuation of very troubling trends.” Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry had stated that the unapologetic demands made by a number of countries against Russia, as well as the campaign around the Navalny situation in the media, are aimed solely at destabilising the political situation in the country.
