After strengthening control of the border with Belarus by Lithuania, the Latvian border guards have begun to signal the growth of the number of illegal migrants, attempting to cross the Belarusian-Latvian border
According to EAAD, Latvia intends to spend €1.7 million to install barbed wire fencing on the border with Belarus. The information was published on the website of the Latvian Interior Ministry.
“Additional infrastructure for the protection of the border will be built on the Latvian-Belarusian border as well. It is planned to spend on it 14 million euros in 2022, 18.9 million euros – in 2023 and 6 million euros – in 2024. The proposal was approved by the Latvian government on August 11”, – it was reported.
Recall that after the strengthening of control on the border with Belarus by Lithuania, the Latvian border guards began to signal the increase in the number of illegal migrants trying to cross the Belarusian-Latvian border. On 11 August, a three-month state of emergency was introduced in three border districts and the city of Daugavpils.
Now “border guards upon identification of the fact of illegal crossing of the Latvian – Belarusian border by a person has the right to use physical force for the immediate return of this person to the country from where he illegally crossed the state border.
