The U.S. military fears that it will have to prepare to evacuate American diplomats and other personnel from the Afghan capital in the very near future
The Washington Post on Tuesday, citing Pentagon sources, said that the US military believes the situation in Afghanistan is rapidly deteriorating, representatives of the radical Taliban movement (banned in Russia) could take over the capital Kabul within one to three months.
“Everything is moving in a bad direction”, – said one of the publication’s interlocutors. It is the third source said the US military establishment now assumes that it will evacuate all American diplomats and staff from the Afghan capital as soon as possible because some of the scenarios available to the US military foresee a Taliban takeover of Kabul in the next 30 to 90 days”, – it was reported.
The report says that the Pentagon has since revised its previous estimate in June that the Taliban could take Kabul within six months, according to some US intelligence agencies.
