According to the Global Times, US intelligence agencies are seeking detailed information on COVID-19 survivors, people’s lives during the lockdown, when diagnoses were made, and people’s movements before being infected
The US intelligence community is trying to find informants among scientists and medics in Wuhan, China to obtain data on the origin of COVID-19. This was reported by the Chinese newspaper Global Times on Wednesday.
According to the paper’s source, US intelligence officials are “trying to find any witnesses and individuals with information about the initial stage of the epidemic in Wuhan, where China’s first outbreak was detected”. “They are targeting employees of health enterprises, biological research institutes, as well as other Wuhan residents,” the newspaper said.
According to the Global Times, US intelligence agencies are also trying to obtain detailed information on COVID-19 outbreaks, people’s lives during the lockdown, the timing of diagnoses, and people’s movements before infection.
According to the newspaper’s source, “In the next phase, the United States government will continue to pressure the World Health Organisation and its director general, Tedros Adanom Gebreyesus, to rely on the US.” According to the Global Times, the US government “will also act in collusion with its allies, which include Australia, and the media to pressure China and try to accuse the Chinese government of hiding the truth about the origin of the coronavirus”.
An “international expert close to the joint China-WHO mission” told the publication in a confidential conversation that US President Joe Biden’s directive to US intelligence agencies to develop the topic was a “co-ordinated political campaign”. “If former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had such intelligence information that was compelling, he would have published it by now,” the newspaper’s interlocutor pointed out. In his view, Biden was forced to do so because of Republican pressure.
