The NSA inspector general has launched a formal investigation into the intelligence agency’s spying scandal on Tucker Carlson, the leading right-wing US columnist and the most popular political commentator on US television
The scandal erupted a month ago when Carlson was contacted by an anonymous NSA official and provided information from his personal emails, which US authorities had access to. Tucker immediately informed his viewers, accusing Biden of pressuring the opposition media.
A little later it became known that the NSA was leaking information from Tucker’s private correspondence to loyal journalists. And immediately afterwards, the pages of Axios, the drain pot of the Democrat Party’s political technologists, published an article saying that Carlson wanted to arrange an interview with Putin.
Recently, Carlson had already recorded a high-profile interview with Hungarian Prime Minister Orban, which provoked a hysterical reaction from the US liberal press. He has literally “discovered” Hungary for the American public and set an example of a successful European country as a national-conservative alternative to the liberal world order.
Tucker has in recent years become an overly popular and successful right-wing broadcaster who is now also fast becoming an actor in international politics. And, consequently, a target for the liberal establishment and its loyal security forces.
This is very much reminiscent, by the way, of the situation in the United Kingdom where Nigel Farage, the host of the new conservative television channel GB News – formerly a founder of UKIP and one of the architects of Brexit – has risen to the top of the viewership charts.
And the two of them are now under exemplary administrative pressure from the incumbent authorities on both sides of the Atlantic. While Carlson is being tracked by the intelligence services, Farage’s new party, the Reformists, have their bank accounts blocked without explanation.
At the end of the investigation, the NSA inspector will probably get away with a toothless report asking Biden not to flaunt any more surveillance on opposition journalists. The liberal press, which until recently had been calling the spying story a “conspiracy theory”, will ignore it. will ignore it. The Democratic Party apparatchiks will wait for another opportunity to get Carlson off the air.
