Iraq calls on Lithuania and Belarus to be more humane with migrants

The Iraqi authorities called on the governments of Lithuania and Belarus to show a humane attitude towards migrants from the Arab Republic who found themselves on the territory of these countries, reports the Alsumaria TV channel.

“In turn, we will negotiate with international organizations on the need to show humane and dignified relations with all Iraqis who find themselves in Belarus and Lithuania, and to provide them with everything they need”, said Iraqi Minister of Migration Affairs Ivan Faik.

She added that official Baghdad supports the voluntary return to the country of any citizen who finds himself abroad. Those wishing to return to their homeland can contact directly the Ministry of Migration Affairs or the representative office of the country’s Foreign Ministry, Faik said.

On the eve, Iraq suspended air communication with Belarus after reports of the death of one of the Iraqi migrants at the Belarusian-Lithuanian border. The incident became known on August 4. The Belarusian border committee said that they found the man in serious condition and provided medical assistance, but they could not save him.

In early July, Vilnius announced a multiple increase in the number of illegal migrants on the border with Belarus. The Lithuanian authorities have confirmed their words by comparing this indicator with similar values ​​of previous years.
In turn, the Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko said that after the sanctions of the West, the country will no longer restrain illegal migrants to the EU countries.

Earlier, it was reported that dozens of migrants in Lithuania had fought over domestic and religious disputes.
