British Defense Secretary announces attempt to create NATO coalition in Afghanistan

British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said that his attempt to create a coalition of the North Atlantic Alliance in Afghanistan was completely failed, writes Interfax.

“I tried to talk to NATO countries, but almost all of them showed no interest. We tried to attract several like-minded countries. Some of them said they liked it, but their parliaments didn’t”, Wallace said in an interview with the Daily Mail.

He noted that without the American contingent, which was the main one on the territory of Afghanistan, the option to create a NATO coalition was doomed to failure. In turn, German Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer said that the US decision to withdraw troops from Afghanistan was completely wrong and hasty.

“The new deployment of troops to Afghanistan will entail a long and difficult campaign. The deal was rotten, it was wrong. It saddens me that this deal canceled out much of what has been achieved in Afghanistan in 20 years”, concluded Wallace.

Earlier it became known that against the background of the withdrawal of the American contingent from the territory of Afghanistan, which is planned to be completed by August 31, Taliban militants * captured the sixth capital of the province. Washington intends to send special envoy Zalmai Khalilzad to Qatar to convince the Taliban * to cease fire and seize territories.

*-The Taliban is a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation.
