US tries to protect Afghan allies with airstrikes

US President Joe Biden has ordered military aircraft strikes on ground targets in Afghanistan to protect allies, the Daily Mail reports

“US troops have conducted several airstrikes in recent days to protect our Afghan partners”, –  said US Air Force Major J. Nicole Ferrara, a spokesman for US Central Command.

U.S. B-52 bombers and AC-130 Spectre attack helicopters struck enemy fighters advancing towards Kandahar and other cities, according to the publication. For his part, Taliban spokesman Qari Yousef Ahmadi said the Taliban* would avenge the airstrikes.

“The Taliban will avenge the US airstrikes in full force”, –  Ahmadi said.

The last US ground troops are due to leave Afghanistan by August 31. The US embassy in Kabul has urged locals to leave the republic immediately. The Taliban* currently control five provincial capitals out of 34.
