More than 350 villages flooded in India due to heavy rains

Some 357 settlements in northern India have been inundated by floodwaters due to heavy rains. Hamirpur and Jalaun districts have been affected the most

The monsoon rains are currently continuing in India, which has led to a rise in the water level of the Ganges and Yamuna rivers. According to local NDTV channel, about a hundred villages have been completely cut off by the floods.

The western districts of Maharashtra state received the highest rainfall in the last 40 years, raising the water level in the Ganges river by two metres above the “dangerous” level. Some 400 people have died in the past three weeks due to various incidents caused by the downpours, according to Indian media. Authorities have evacuated about 230 thousand residents of flooded communities.
