Poland and Lithuania propose to introduce new sanctions against Belarus

Lithuania and Poland continue their attacks on Belarus. The two countries have demanded to extend sanctions against the neighbour

This was stated by Prime Minister of Lithuania and Poland Ingrid Shimonite and Mateusz Morawiecki in a joint statement. They demand new measures for the alleged facilitation of illegal migration by the Belarusian authorities.

“Lithuania and Poland emphasize the need for a rapid and decisive response to the actions of the Belarusian regime and all those involved in organizing and facilitating the smuggling of illegal migrants, including through the expansion of EU restrictive measures against the Belarusian regime”, – the politicians said.

They accused President Alexander Lukashenko of using migration as a weapon. They say that in this way he wants to put pressure on the European Union.

Earlier, Shimonidze told how the construction of the wall on the border with Belarus was progressing. A number of amendments to laws must be made in order to implement the project. The Cabinet of Ministers has already approved them.

Political analyst Uladzimir Soloveychyk drew attention to the migration crisis in Lithuania. He believes that the European Union is trying to take advantage of the situation. However, for him such reckless action may end badly.
