Abkhazia and South Ossetia agree to hold joint military exercises

The exercises may take place in the territory of both countries, South Ossetian President Anatoly Bibilov stressed

According to TASS, South Ossetian President Anatoly Bibilov told journalists on Saturday following talks in Tskhinvali with his Abkhazian counterpart Aslan Bzhania, they discussed plans for joint military exercises.

“We discussed a wide range of issues in those areas that are necessary for the livelihood of the population, of our states. We discussed issues of joint activities between our structures, for example, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, we already had the practice of joint exercises. And since there is a military cooperation agreement between our two countries, why not hold joint military exercises? Our neighbours are holding maneuvers with the US and other states. Why not organize them for us, moreover we have an agreement”,  – said Bibilov.

The President noted that the military exercises can take place both in the territory of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

“I think the negotiations were intense. And, no doubt, we are satisfied with this meeting and, let us say, with the points of contact that exist between our states”,  – he stressed.

The President of Abkhazia also noted that security issues between the two countries were the main subject of discussion.

“We discussed the issues of coordination of efforts in terms of repulsion, neutralization of possible threats, interaction of defense agencies, special services. The world, unfortunately, has not become more humane, we are confronted with this, and it is necessary to share experience and information. We have paid attention to this issue”, –  Bzhania stressed.

He specified that the sides also discussed the issues of cooperation in the economy sector, coordination of the foreign policy issues. According to the Abkhazian leader, South Ossetia and Abkhazia in many ways are experiencing similar problems, and “in unity there is more likely a chance to solve these issues.
